OPEN LETTER TO THE PLAINVIEW OLD-BETHPAGE COMMUNITY
Dear Fellow Community Members,
The volunteer fire service is the system that protects and serves the residents and community of Plainview. It isn’t just a calling. it’s a legacy that reaches back to the Volunteer Fire Department of the City of New York. Did you know that Plainview Volunteer Fire Department has continued that tradition since 1927?
There has never been a greater need for people to volunteer their time to assist the community than right now. Nationwide, volunteerism is down due to family economics (multiple jobs), general life stress, personal availability, or an overall lack of interest. In 2022 your Plainview volunteer firefighters and volunteer EMS crews answered over 2,425 Fire and EMS calls for assistance. According to the Firefighters Association of New York State, volunteer firefighters save NY state taxpayers over three billion dollars annually.
The Plainview Volunteer Fire Department is asking all of our community members for help. We need more of our residents to join the ranks of the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department and bring your expertise and personal strengths to our department. We will provide all of the necessary training. Your commitment to personal excellence and willingness to serve our town through volunteerism is truly something your family, friends, and neighbors can count on. We welcome all inquiries and you can contact 2nd Deputy Chief Cohen at 516-938-9601 for answers to any questions. Also, go to our website: plainviewfd.org and click join at the top of the page.
Thank you in advance for your support and willingness to step up and help.
