The Plainview Fire Department junior firefighter program is under the direction of senior members of the department who have many years of experience managing our program. It is our program’s goal that each Junior Firefighter will leave the program upon turning 18 years of age with a better sense of responsibility and that he or she will be more accountable for their actions in their family and their community.
We know from experience that while operating in a safe, controlled, educational, and fun environment, exposing Juniors to technical knowledge in the areas of fire, rescue, and emergency medical services response, our program helps young people gain technical knowledge as well as life skills including teamwork, leadership, confidence, and a sense of community service not otherwise available to them.
Open to all teenage residents of the Plainview Fire Department protection district (primarily Plainview and Old Bethpage), applicants must be no younger than thirteen years old or in the seventh grade, reside in the Plainview Old-Bethpage Fire District or within one (1) mile of the Plainview fire protection border.
